Why recovery often slows right before you get better

Many people experience a point during rehab where progress seems to stop.

Pain isn't getting worse but it's not getting significantly better either.

The recovery plateau.

This stage is extremely common.

During a plateau:

  • Improvements become less noticeable

  • Progress feels slower

  • Motivation often drops

Why it happens:

Early recovery usually brings noticeable improvements.

Later stages involve:

  • Fine-tuning movement

  • Rebuilding strength

  • Increasing resilience

These improvements happen more gradually.

Don't mistake slower progress for failure

A plateau doesn't necessarily mean recovery has stopped.

It may simply mean your body is transitioning into the next stage of adaptation.

What helps:

  • Staying consistent

  • Tracking progress beyond pain

  • Progressing exercises appropriately

  • Maintaining realistic expectations

TRUST. THE. PROCESS.

Many successful recoveries involve periods where progress feels invisible before major improvements appear.

If your recovery feels stuck, we can help identify whether you're truly plateauing or simply entering the next phase of progress.
