The difference between healing and recovery

Many people use the words "healing" and "recovery" interchangeably.
They're related but they're not the same thing.
Healing:
Healing refers to what happens inside the body.
Examples include:
Tissue repair
Reduction of inflammation
Bone healing
Muscle recovery
Your body handles much of this automatically.
Recovery:
Recovery is what allows you to return to normal life.
It involves:
Strength
Mobility
Balance
Endurance
Confidence
Why does this distinction matter?
An injury may be healed structurally but still leave you:
Weak
Stiff
Unstable
Fearful of movement
This is where rehabilitation becomes essential.
Recovery requires participation.
Healing happens naturally.
Recovery requires action.
The combination of both leads to long-term success.
If your injury has technically healed but you're still not moving the way you'd like, physiotherapy can help bridge the gap between healing and full recovery.
