Why comparing your recovery to someone else's is a mistake

"My friend recovered from the same injury in three weeks. Why am I still struggling?"

It's a common question and one that often creates unnecessary frustration.

Every injury is different

Even if two people have the same diagnosis, factors such as:

  • Age

  • Activity level

  • Previous injuries

  • General health

  • Lifestyle habits

….can dramatically affect recovery speed.

Healing isn't a race

Comparing your progress to someone else's can lead to:

  • Unrealistic expectations

  • Pushing too hard

  • Skipping important recovery stages

  • Increased stress and frustration

Focus on your own progress

A better question is:

"Am I improving compared to where I was last week?"

Small improvements matter:

  • Better movement

  • Less stiffness

  • Improved strength

  • Increased activity tolerance

Consistency beats speed

Fast recoveries are great but sustainable recoveries are better.

The goal isn't to heal quickly. The goal is to heal properly.

If you're unsure whether your recovery is progressing as expected, we can help assess where you are and create realistic milestones for moving forward.
