How long should recovery really take (Honest Answer)

One of the most common questions: “How long will this take to heal?”

The honest answer?

It depends.

Recovery timelines vary based on:

  • Type and severity of injury

  • How long it’s been present

  • Your activity level

  • Consistency with rehab

General expectations:

  • Mild issues: a few weeks

  • Moderate injuries: 4–8 weeks

  • Long-standing or complex issues: several months

But timelines aren’t linear.

Why recovery feels slow

Progress doesn’t happen in a straight line:

  • Some days feel better

  • Some days feel worse

That’s normal.

What speeds up recovery

  • Early and appropriate movement

  • Consistent rehab

  • Gradual progression

  • Avoiding long periods of inactivity

What delays recovery

  • Waiting too long to address it

  • Stopping rehab early

  • Overdoing it too soon

The key mindset: Don’t focus only on time, focus on progress and consistency.

If you’re unsure whether your recovery is on track, we can assess your progress and give you a realistic plan moving forward.
